Police intercept ganja hidden in frozen chickens

Police conducting operations at a checkpoint in Region Seven intercepted some 565 grams of ganja hidden in frozen chickens at the weekend.

According to a statement from Police Headquarters, during the routine stop and search exercise, the ranks stopped motor lorry GZZ 3698 which was driven by a 46-year-old resident of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara and transporting 12 passengers.

A cooler belonging to one of the passengers – a 40-year-old shop owner of Best Village, West Coast Demerara – was searched during which the 11) frozen chickens were found to have contained eleven 11 bulky parcels of cannabis wrapped in plastic and foil wraps.

Police said the woman was told of the offence, arrested and cautioned during which she responded: “Officer I buy this weed from a girl to go and sell”.

The woman was escorted to the Bartica Police Station where the ganja was weighed and amounted to 565 grams.

The cannabis was lodged and the suspect is in custody as the probe continues
