Brazilian miner missing for days found dead in Mazaruni River
A 37-year-old Brazillian gold miner, identified by the police as Allesandro Foss, was on Tuesday fished out of the Middle Mazaruni River after he was reported missing three days earlier.
According to a police statement, on Saturday last, Foss was left to look over a Dragger (water dredge), which is located in the Middle Mazaruni River, in close proximity to Pappyshow Landing.
On Tuesday, at about 11:00 hrs, information was received that he was not seen since Saturday. Hours later, his boat was discovered drifting in the river.
As a result, a party of policemen discovered the victim floating face down in river in the vicinity of Surinamo Landing. Police did not notice any marks of violence on his body.
Foss was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 20:00 hrs. His body is at the Bartica Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
