Cop, businessman robbed by gun-toting bandit

A man has been taken into police custody after he executed a daring robbery on a businessman and cop, who were working on a newly-constructed house at Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara.

According to police reports, the robbery occurred on Thursday at around 16:30hrs.

Police said that the suspect reportedly approached the victims to inquire about the boss running the construction site.

When invited into the property, the armed suspect whipped out a gun and relieved the men of one gold band valued $80,000; one Samsung A32 cell phone valued $65,000; one Blu cellular phone valued $3,000; one wallet containing $114,000 and $21,000 cash.

The victims, police said, entered their vehicle and chased the suspect, who entered a dark blue Toyota IST, bearing registration number PPP 1130.

The victims reportedly managed to block the vehicle and the suspect jumped out and ran into a nearby yard; persons in the area kept watch while one of the victims rushed to the Wales Police Station for assistance.

Police were quickly summoned on the scene and the yard was searched, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The phones, gold band, and $14,000 cash were recovered from the suspect’s person. The area was searched, but no firearm or other valuables were found.

Meanwhile, the other two occupants in the car that the suspect joined have since been detained, pending further investigations.
