    May’s ‘COVID’ death toll moves to 99; 83 new cases reported

    The Ministry of Health, on Friday, confirmed three additional COVID-19 deaths, taking Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll since March 11, 2020, to 403.

    The three new fatalities are:

    1. A 71-year-old woman from Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) who died on May 27;
    2. A 36-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) who died on May 26; and
    3. A 75-year-old woman from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) who died on June 2.

    Previously, Guyana’s death toll for May was 97; it has now moved to 99 with additional deaths. The death toll for June now stands at five.

    Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also reported that 83 additional people have been infected with the virus. These new cases were recorded from 1,512 tests. The total number of cases has risen to 17,459.

    These new cases were recorded in: Region One (eight cases), Region Three (seven cases), Region Four (40 cases), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (seven cases), Region Nine (15 cases), and Region 10 (four cases).

    Additionally, there are 1,900 active cases; 17 of these cases are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 105 people are in institutional isolation, 1,772 people are in home isolation and six people are in institutional quarantine.

    In total, there have been 15,162 recoveries.
