A hit and run accident along the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Saturday night, has left a 16-year-old boy seriously injured.
Police said at around 21:40 hrs, Vishwanauth Doodnauth of Dr. Miller Street, Triumph, ECD, was riding a bicycle along the road when minibus #BWW 5336 collided with him.
A police statement disclosed that the teenager, along with his younger brother, were on separate bicycles proceeding from north to south along the road.
While riding south across the carriageway, the minibus which was proceeding west, collided with the pedal cyclist causing him to fall onto the road; he sustained initial and lost consciousness.
The minibus stopped and several persons exited in a bid to render assistance, after which the driver drove away.
The pedal cyclist was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), suffering from Intracranial Hemorrhage.
The police said checks were made in the Mon Repos area and the said minibus was found on the public road with damages consistent with the accident.
The driver of the minibus remains unknown as investigations continue.
