A 56-year-old housewife from Columbia Back Street, Essequibo Coast came face to face with a home intruder who robbed her of jewellery and cash on Saturday night.
Among the items stolen are four gold chains valued at $378,000; a gold band valued at $240,000; three pairs of gold bangles worth $54,000 and $20,000 in cash.
A police statement noted that the woman who resides with her husband and grandson, secured her home and retired to bed at about 21:30hrs.
She was awakened by a noise in the house and, along with her husband, they went to investigate when they noticed the silhouette of a male in the dark.
The husband and wife both started to scream for help.
This startled the intruder who made good his escape through a window.
The victim further stated that when she turned on the lights, she discovered that her wardrobe was broken into and the items were missing along with several louvre panes from a window.
A report was later made at the Anna Regina Police station and an investigation is in progress.
