One dead after three-vehicle smash-up on Linden Highway

A three-vehicle accident on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway Sunday night has left one man dead and several others nursing life-threatening injuries about their bodies.

The dead man was identified as 48-year-old bus driver, Mark Ault of Republic Drive, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D).

Also involved in the accident were 51-year-old Lindon Lamaizon of  Brusche Dam, Friendship Village, East Coast Demerara; 61-year-old Julian Elliot of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden along with Akeemo Elliot and Candace Gordon.

According to a police statement, the accident occurred at around 20:30hrs in the vicinity of Dora Public Road.

Police said that Ault was driving his minibus, PKK 3866, proceeding north along the road when hire car HC 9662 driven by Lamaizon ended up in his path.

The resulting collision caused Ault to lose control of the minibus which then slammed into motorcar PLL 3468 being driven by Julian Elliot; he was proceeding along the eastern carriageway of the road, with two occupants at the time.

The bus driver was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the McKenzie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Julian Elliot and the occupants in his motorcar; Akeemo Elliot and Candace Gordon were also taken to the McKenzie Public Hospital and are currently under observation.

Julian Elliot was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital nursing injuries to his pelvic and spine.
