Two more women die from COVID-19; 17 persons in ICU

The Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed two additional COVID-19 deaths, taking Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll since March 11, 2020, to 411.

The latest fatalities are two women; a 70-year-old from Region Two Pomeroon- Supenaam and a 65-year-old from Demerara Mahaica. They both died while receiving care at a medical facility on June 6.

The death toll for June now stands at 13.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also reported that 53 additional people have been infected with the virus. These new cases were recorded from 602 tests. The total number of cases has risen to 17,718.

These new cases were recorded in Region Two (six cases), Region Three (seven cases), Region Four (23 cases), Region Five (four cases), Region Six (three cases), Region Seven (four cases), Region Eight (one case) and Region Nine (five cases).

Additionally, 17 of these cases are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 95 people are in institutional isolation, 1,675 people are in home isolation and two people are in institutional quarantine.
