Driver robbed of 212 car at gunpoint in Rasville

A 53-year-old driver has claimed that he was held at gunpoint on Monday night by two men, who robbed him of his silver-grey Toyota 212 car (PKK 1580) valued at $800,000.

According to a police report, the driver was also robbed of his Samsung cellphone and $8,000 in cash. The armed robbery occurred at Rasville, Georgetown at around 23:30hrs.

The driver told police that he uses the car as a private hire, and so, he was at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) when one of the perpetrators approached him and requested his service to go to Back School in West.

The perpetrator sat in the front seat and they proceeded to the location; upon arrival, the alleged bandit placed a telephone call and then requested to be taken to Rasville next to the New Guyana School.

Upon arrival at the said location, the other bandit appeared, place a gun to the head of the driver and demanded that he exit the car; the driver complied.

The gunman entered the car and escaped with his accomplice still in the front seat.

The victim’s cell phone and cash were in the car’s middle pocket at the time.

Investigations are in progress.
