Tamica Prescod, a 30-year-old Barbadian national, is in police custody, following the death of a 48-year-old pedal cyclist, who was struck down on the Loo Creek Public Road, Soesdyke Linden Highway on Monday evening.
Dead is Kumar Persaud, who resided at Seventh Day Adventist Camp Site, Soesdyke Linden Highway.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Prescod was driving pickup GSS 7395 north along the western side of the road; she alleged that the pedal cyclist – who was in front of her – made a sudden turn into her path.
She further claimed that she pulled east to avoid a collision, but the left side front of the vehicle collided with the pedal cyclist despite her effort.
Persaud was struck off the bicycle and sustained severe injuries to his head and body; he was rushed in an unconscious state to the Diamond Hospital, East Bank Demerara by public-spirited citizens and the police, where he was pronounced dead.
His body is at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
