Guyana’s Olympic-bound swimmers Andrew Fowler and Jamila Sanmoogan will be the beneficiaries of a training camp at the AZURA Aquatics Facility in Florida, as they prepare for the Olympic Games from July 23 to August 8, 2021, in Tokyo.

According to a press release by the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) on Tuesday, there were able to enter the two swimmers into the FINA High-Performance training camp in preparation for the Tokyo Games, with the support from Guyana Olympic Association.

The camp will be conducted by FINA approved coach, Gianluca Alberani, and runs from June 1 to July 10.

The release indicated that Fowler departed Guyana for the camp on June 1, while Sanmoogan’s departure is still pending due to commitments with school.

Meanwhile, national swimmer Leon Seaton Jr., who is currently on a FINA scholarship at the AZURA facility, is slated to return to Guyana at the end of this month.

Additionally, a team of local swimmers is slated to depart Guyana to take part in a regional meet in The Bahamas at the end of the month.

“We are extremely grateful to the Olympic Association for supporting this initiative and we know our swimmers will benefit greatly from this, taking into consideration all the challenges we face,” GASA President Dwayne Scott said.
