Everest Cricket Club on Tuesday sealed a new partnership with Bank of Baroda Guyana Inc. to aid its ongoing infrastructural development drive.
Through the alliance, the club’s Billiards Room will be converted to the Bank of Baroda VIP Lounge.
President of the Club and Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, said the Camp Road club is grateful for the support, which will go a long way in enhancing the standard of its facilities.
“Because our Club wants to ensure it can lift its facilities for the benefit of its members. And Bank of Baroda readily stepped forward once they heard of the project and after they saw what was happening in terms of the improvement at Everest,” Nadir explained.
Managing Director of Bank of Baroda Guyana Inc., Arun Kumar Gupta, said the bank is pleased to lend a hand in the development drive, and bring to fruition the vision of the Nadir-led executive.
Gupta said the Bank of Baroda, which has been operating in Guyana since 1966, and the Everest Cricket Club, which was established in 1914, have served the Guyanese people well, and it was only natural that such a relationship be birthed.
He also lauded the vision of Nadir to take the Club to another level.
Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, welcomed the relationship formed between the 107-year club and India’s third largest public sector bank.
“I think this will be a valuable addition by the Bank of Baroda to the cricket ground,” the High Commissioner declared.
Nadir touched on the renovation works that are ongoing, noting that the club is using the downtime created by COVID-19 to spruce up its environs.
The intention is to provide an improved environment for members and visitors post-COVID-19.
Remedial works to the facility include players’ locker rooms, expansion of visitors dressing room and parking lot, and upgrade to the squash and lawn tennis courts.
