COVID-19: 15.6 % of adult population fully vaccinated

As of Monday, approximately 15.6 per cent of Guyana’s adult population has been fully immunised against the COVID-19 virus.

That means that a total of 77,980 Guyanese have received their first and second jabs of either the Russian Sputnik V, Chinese Sinopharm and Astra Zeneca vaccines.

Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, in his daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, also reported that as of Monday, 43.7 per cent of the country’s adult population received their first doses – this equates to 212,541 persons.

As the government’s vaccination campaign continues countrywide, the Health Minister also disclosed that Guyana will soon get another boost of vaccines, with 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine expected in the new week.

Additionally, the Health Minister noted that the government is hoping to receive the expected shipment of Sputnik V second doses in the new week.

Meanwhile, the minister once more expressed concern at the slow pace of vaccination in Region 10. There, he said, the vaccination rates are the lowest with just 12.9 per cent of persons receiving their first dose.
