Man shot by Security Guard after causing ruckus as Diamond Supermarket
A man who the police identified as 22-year-old Flavian James is now hospitalised, in a critical condition, after he was shot by a security guard outside the Tan Yuan Meng supermarket at 13th Street Diamond, East Bank Demerara on Wednesday night.
Police said the security guard, 34-year-old Carlos Pollydore, is currently in custody.
According to a statement from police headquarters, Pollydore was on duty at the supermarket when James and several friends arrived and began imbibing.
While there, it is alleged that James jumped in and out of customers’ vehicles as they were making purchases.
As a result, the security guard warned the victim to desist from what he was doing.
James got annoyed and broke a Guinness bottle while advancing towards the security guard, police said. It was at this point that the security guard shot James once to the left leg above the knee.
The police were summoned and escorted the victim to the Diamond Hospital. Meanwhile, another police patrol arrested the security guard and took possession of his firearm which is an AR rifle along with 13 live rounds of ammunition and one spent shell.
He was taken to the Golden Grove Station where he was placed into custody and the weapon and rounds were lodged.
Police said upon arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital, contact was made with the attending physician who related that the warhead entered the front of the left leg just above the knee and exited behind the left knee.
James’ condition is listed as critical and he has been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
