Bandits kick down door of pregnant woman; beat, chop partner

Police have arrested four males, ages 18, 22, 23 and 49, in connection with the robbery of an 18-year-old pregnant female teacher and her 26-year-old partner, who is a mechanic, which occurred on Wednesday night in St. Ignatius  Village, Central Rupununi.

The bandits stole a quantity of silver and gold jewellery valued at $45,000; a SSP music box valued at $20,000 and a black Samsung G2 Core cellphone valued at $70,000.

A police report noted that the teacher was in bed with her partner at around 20:30hrs when three suspects – each armed with a cutlass – kicked down their front door and start to beat and chop her partner who eventually escaped.

The female victim observed the perpetrators searching her house upon the directives from the eldest of the three.

“The perps then used their machetes to destroy a bicycle valued $35,000, hammock valued $5,000 and a black Honda XR motorcycle bearing registration #CG 4118,” police said.

A report was made to the police and acting on information, a raid was conducted on three house in Tabatinga, St. Ignatius Village and Lethem where four males were arrested, including the three suspects.

They are presently in custody at the Lethem Police Station.  One Brazilian-made motorcycle was found and is presently lodged at Lethem Police Station pending investigations.

Police could not immediately say what happened to the partner who was chopped.
