Troops from US, France, Canada, other countries in Guyana for military exercise

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has urged Guyanese not to panic or become alarmed at the sight of helicopters in Timehri, Georgetown, Bartica, and Linden, as it is part of the current multi-national security exercise dubbed “Exercise Tradewinds 2021” being hosted here.

Troops from the United States (US)and 17 partner nations have already arrived for the exercise.

“During the exercise, there will also be the movement of military exercise personnel in a few communities,” the Force said in an advisory on Friday.

The exercise will provide opportunities to conduct joint, combined, and interagency partner nation capacity building focused on increasing regional cooperation in complex multinational security operations, as well as in humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.

Participating nations include Belize, Bermuda Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France,  Mexico, Netherlands, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

“The Guyana Defence Force assures the public that their safety and security will be of the highest consideration during this Exercise,” the advisory stated.
