Another two men have died from the disease, COVID-19 taking the total number of deaths recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 to 426, while 28 of these deaths have been recorded in this month alone.
The Ministry of Health reported that the latest fatalities are a 63-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) and a 71-year-old man from Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice). These men died while receiving care at a medical facility, according to the Ministry.
Earlier on Sunday, the News Room was able to confirm that the Vice-Chairman of Region 10, Douglas Gittens passed away after he became infected with COVID-19 and was hospitalised.
Meanwhile, another 83 people infected with the disease, taking the total number of cases recorded since last March to 18, 386. These new infections were recorded from 1,191 tests.
The 83 infections were also drawn from: Region Two (one case), Region Three (12 cases), Region Four (42 cases), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (three cases), Region Eight (eight cases) and Region 10 (15 cases).
There are also 1,684 active cases; 23 of these cases are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 115 are in institutional isolation, 1,542 are in home isolation and four are in institutional quarantine.
Aside from the infected people, there are 30 newly-recovered people, taking the total number of recoveries to 16,280.
