Meet the NSC Commissioner Cristy Campbell

Guyana Tennis Association President, Cristy Campbell has been appointed a member of the National Sports Commission

On May 20, 2021, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., approved the appointments of six members to the Board of the National Sports Commission (NSC) for the next two years.

The Commission comprises Kashif Muhammad (Chairman), Bissoondyal Singh, Cristy Campbell, Dellon Davidson, Phillip Fernandes and Cheteram Ramdial.

Singh is the current President of the Guyana Cricket Board; Campbell, President of the Tennis Association; Fernandes, President of Guyana Hockey Board; Ramdial is a Chartered Accountant; and Davidson is a Private Consultant.

On May 30, the Commission, in consultation with the Minister, appointed President of the Guyana Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle, the new Director of Sport.

Today, we begin a series of articles that will feature individual profiles of the six Commissioners. We serve off with President of the Guyana Tennis Association, Cristy Campbell.

Cristy Campbell is a five-time national tennis champion

Name: Cristy Campbell

Cristy Campbell was elected President of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) in April 2021 after previously holding the position of First Vice-President from 2016 to 2020.

Campbell, who was first elected to GLTA in 2015, is a five-time national tennis champion and current number one female player, winning her first title in 2014.

The multi-talented athlete also represented Guyana in Track and Field and Basketball at the junior level.

She is a gold and silver medallist in the High and Long Jump at the Inter-Guiana Games from 1998/1999 and sprint and High-jump Queen at the University of Guyana in 2011.

Cristy was also a national athlete from Primary to Secondary School between 1992 and 2001.

Campbell served as IGG team manager from 2016 to 2019 and won the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women in Sport Leadership Award in 2018. She was also part of the scrutineering team for the ITF Annual General Meeting and Elections in 2019 and 2020.

In 2020, Cristy was appointed Executive Member of the Guyana Olympic Association’s Women in Sport Committee, and in 2021, joined the ITF Advantage All-Gender Equality Network.
