More than 2,700 people vaccinated at weekend drive-thru events

A total of 2,779 people received their first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines at the drive-thru events held at the National Stadium, Providence and the Movietowne Mall, Turkeyen, according to Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony.

The Minister related this information during his daily COVID-19 update on Monday; he also related that a total of 220,997 people across Guyana have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Additionally, some 87,919 individuals have received both doses. Two weeks after an individual receives their second dose, they are considered fully vaccinated.

Providing the figures for the weekend vaccination drive- thru events, the Minister said that 735 individuals received their vaccines at the Movietowne on Saturday while another 694 individuals received their vaccines on Sunday.

At the National Stadium, where two other drive-thru events were held previously, another 700 people received these COVID-19 vaccines on Saturday, while 650 got their jabs on Sunday.

A majority of the vaccines administered, he said, were the first doses.

While relating that many people have expressed their appreciation of the efficiency of these drive-thru events, Dr. Anthony said that the Ministry will facilitate similar events in future. Already, plans are in the works for additional events at other venues in Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica).

The Ministry will also examine conducting similar events in Region Two (Pomeroon – Supenaam), Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) and Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne).

Meanwhile, the minister said that vaccination uptake in Region Eight (Potaro- Siparuni) Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) is still low compared to the other regions.

The vaccination rates in the regions, according to the Minister are as follows:

  1. Region One: 53.2 per cent
  2. Region Two: 42 per cent
  3. Region Three: 44.8 per cent
  4. Region Four: 47.2 per cent
  5. Region FIve: 48.6 per cent
  6. Region Six: 53 per cent
  7. Region Seven: 44.1 per cent
  8. Region Eight: 28.5 per cent
  9. Region Nine: 42.5 per cent
  10. Region 10: 13.6 per cent
