    Another ‘COVID’ death, 104 new infections

    The Ministry of Health on Friday reported that another woman succumbed to the COVID-19 virus taking Guyana’s overall mortality rate since the pandemic was discovered here in March 2020 to 442.

    The latest fatality is a 67-year-old woman from Region 3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) who died while receiving care at a medical facility on June 17.

    So far, 44 deaths have since been recorded this month alone.  Additionally, another 104 people were tested positive, taking the total number of known cases in the country to 18,837.

    These new infections were recorded from 1,312 tests. They were recorded in Region One (two cases), Region Two (eight cases), Region Three (five cases), Region Four (34 cases), Region Six (nine cases), Region Nine (35 cases) and Region 10 (11 cases).

    There are also 21 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 108 are in institutional isolation and 1,371 are in home isolation.
