Two more die from COVID; 136 new cases, 21 in ICU

The Ministry of Health on Saturday reported two more COVID-19 fatalities taking Guyana’s overall mortality rate since the pandemic was discovered here in March 2020 to 444.

The latest fatalities are a 77-year-old-woman and a 40-year-old man, both hailing from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). They died while receiving care at a medical facility on June 18.

Those additional deaths push June’s death toll to 46.  Additionally, another 136 people tested positive, taking the total number of known cases in the country to 18,973.

These new infections were recorded from 892 tests. They were recorded in Region One (two cases), Region Three (eight cases), Region Four (30 cases), Region Six (five cases), Region Seven (three cases), Region Nine (82 cases), and Region 10 (six cases).

There are also 21 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 108 are in institutional isolation and 1,353 are in home isolation. The number of recovered COVID-19 cases stands at 17,047.
