    Three more persons have succumbed to the COVID-19 disease taking Guyana’s overall mortality rate since the pandemic was discovered here in March 2020 to 447.

    The Ministry of Health on Sunday reported that the latest fatalities are:
    – A 66-year-old man from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo)
    – A 73-year-old man from also of Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo)
    – And a 43-year-old woman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica)

    Both men died on June 17 while the woman succumbed on June 18.

    The ministry said that the patients were admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at a medical institution. The samples were taken at the time of their admission and returned positive results.

    So far, 49 deaths have since been recorded this month alone. Additionally, another 123 people were tested positive, taking the total number of known cases in the country to 19,096.

    These new infections were recorded from 987 tests. They were recorded in Region Two (nine cases), Region Three (16 cases), Region Four (37 cases), Region Five (six cases), Region Six (20 cases), Region Nine (32 cases) and Region 10 (three cases).

    There are also 21 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 107 are in institutional isolation and 1,448 are in home isolation.
