Bicycle bandit snatches loaded firearm from security guard

A 29-year-old security guard who was standing on the Plaisance road, East Coast Demerara, had his loaded .38 Taurus pistol with six live rounds snatched from his right side pants pocket by a bandit who was on a bicycle.

A report from the police noted that the incident occurred at around 11:10hrs on Sunday. Police said the victim is a shift commander employed by a security company and was on active duty along with the driver of the security vehicle when they stopped to check the tyres of the vehicle.

According to the police report, the security guard was standing on the road, bending over checking the tyres when he felt the firearm was pulled out of his pocket.

When he turned around, he saw the identifiable suspect on a pedal cycle riding away in an eastern direction with the firearm in his possession.

The victim immediately alerted his colleague and they gave chase behind the suspect managed to escape with the firearm.

The victim and his colleague are in custody assisting with the investigations.
