Teen arrested after crashing with hijacked car

A 19-year-old suspect has been placed into police custody after he attempted to hijack a motorcar in the wee hours of Monday June 21, 2021.

Police said that the victim, 43-year-old Annand Gaj, had his Blue Toyota Carina parked at his Cherry Field, La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara.

At around 00:30hrs,  Gaj was inside his home when he reportedly heard his engine start.  He then raised an alarm and alerted neighbors who helped to chase after the suspect who was later found stuck in a trench with the vehicle.

The suspect was handed over to the police and was seen with injuries to his head. He is hospitalized under police guard in a stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.
