The domestic-based contingent of Guyana’s senior Men’s national squad arrived in the United States on Wednesday to begin final preparations ahead of their Concacaf Gold Cup preliminary round qualification match against Guatemala.
The Golden Jaguars, who departed from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Wednesday morning, will train and compete in friendly matches in Florida before facing the central American nation at 21:30h local time on Saturday, July 3 at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
“We wish the squad and staff all the best in their quest to qualify for the final rounds of the Concacaf Gold Cup for the second consecutive tournament,” said Guyana Football Federation President, Wayne Forde.
“We expect Guatemala to prove challenging opponents, but we know our players will leave everything on the pitch and that the entire nation will be roaring with the Golden Jaguars,” he said.
The winner of the first round qualification fixture will play either Guadeloupe or the Bahamas on July 6 for a place in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup final competition. The 2021 Gold Cup takes place between July 10 and August 1 at various venues across the United States.
