4 more COVID deaths; 206 new cases, 101 in Reg. 9 alone

Guyana has recorded four more COVID-19 deaths taking the overall death toll to 458 since March 2020 while 60 persons have now died for the month thus far.

The latest fatalities, according to the Ministry of Health, are:

– an 85-year-old woman from Region One (Barima-Waini) who died on June 22;

– an 81-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) who also died on June 22;

– a 58-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) who died on June 23; and

– a 54-year-old woman of Region Four who also died on June 23.

The patients were admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at medical facilities. Samples that were taken at the time of their admission and later returned positive.

Meanwhile, an additional 206 people have been infected with the disease, taking the total number of cases recorded since March last year to 19,565; 101 of those new infections were recorded in Region Nine alone.

These new cases were recorded after 1,434 tests were conducted.

The new cases were drawn from Region One (three cases), Region Two (six cases), Region Three (14 cases), Region Four (16 cases), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (21 cases), Region Nine (101 cases) and Region 10 (11 cases).

There are also 18 people are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 112 people are in institutional isolation, 1,572 are in home isolation and nine people are in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, another 108 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease. This means that a total of 17,405 people have recovered since March 2020.
