Another man has succumbed to the dreaded COVID-19 virus taking the overall death toll to 459 since March 2020 while 61 persons have now died for the month thus far.
The latest fatality, according to the Ministry of Health, was a 59-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) who died while receiving care at a medical facility on June 24.
Meanwhile, an additional 109 people have been infected with the disease, taking the total number of cases recorded since March last year to 19,674.
These new cases were recorded after 982 tests were conducted.
The new cases were drawn from Region One (five cases), Region Two (one case), Region Three (five cases), Region Four (33 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (21 cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Nine (34 cases) and Region 10 (five cases).
There are also 17 people are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 99 people are in institutional isolation, 1,473 are in home isolation and nine people are in institutional quarantine.
Importantly, another 221 people have recovered after they were infected with the disease. This means that a total of 17,626 people have recovered since March 2020.
