Berbice man dragged, beaten, robbed by bandits

A 61-year-old man of Line Path, Corriverton, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne), was assaulted and robbed of $130,000 cash on Friday morning by three bandits.

According to a police report, the man secured his home and was leaving to go to a masjid. As he was about to drive out of his yard, he was approached by three unidentifiable males who tackled him to the ground.

He was then assaulted and dragged into his yard, where his hands were duct-taped together. Then one of the suspects, who was armed with a black handgun, demanded money and threatened to shoot him.

Police reported that the three suspects then took the victim into his house where they searched and relieved him of $130,000 cash. Afterwards, the three men escaped on foot.

Upon examination, the 61-year-old man received multiple injuries to his head and mouth and was subsequently taken to the Skeldon Hospital to receive medical treatment.

Three persons have been arrested and are assisting the police with investigations.
