An investigation has been launched into an accident at a mining pit in Blackwater Backdam, Cuyuni River which laimed the life of a 21-year-old man, who is so far only identified as ‘Vibes’ of Four Miles, Port Kaituma.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the accident occurred on Monday at around 16:30hrs while the young man was jetting in the mining pit.
Police said that the dam that held slush from the tail end broke and the slush began to run down, covering ‘Vibes’. The four other workers at the put said ‘Vibes’ pinched the hose and tried to escape but it was futile.
They later dug him out of the slush and he was motionless; the victim was then placed on an ATV and transported to Bartica Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after midnight.
Police said a wound was observed on his right hand. The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
