Guyana exceeds 20,000 COVID-19 cases

Guyana on Wednesday surpassed 20,000 COVID-19 infections with 96 cases recorded after 1,550 tests were conducted.

The total number of infections recorded since March 11, 2020, now stands at 20,055.

The new cases were recorded from: Region One (four cases); Region Two (seven cases); Region Three (nine cases); Region Four (53 cases); Region Six (nine cases); Region Nine (five cases); and Region 10 (four cases).

The Ministry of Health also reported an additional COVID-19 death pushing Guyana’s total mortality rate to 469. Of this number, 71 of those deaths were recorded during the month of June.

The latest fatality is one 52-year-old man from Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica) who died while receiving care at a medical facility on June 29.

Additionally, there are 12 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 1,440 are people in home isolation, six people are in institutional quarantine and 94 people are in institutional isolation.

The total number of people who have recovered to date is 18,040.
