Lethem teens arrested for stealing $98k from cop


Three teenagers – ages 15, 16, and 17 – were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a bag containing $98,800 from the vehicle of a Police Sergeant in Tabatinga, Lethem Central Rupununi, Region Nine.

Police Headquarters revealed that a 36-year-old Police Sergeant, Kenyatta Bishops, left his house at around 15:00hrs with the cash and headed to a mechanic shop at Tabatinga to fix the lock on the driver’s side of the vehicle (PPP #9131).

Later that night, at around 21:00hrs, he secured his vehicle on the side of the road in front of his friend’s residence as he waited on the car part. At around 22:10hrs, the cop discovered the said bag with the cash missing, and the driver’s front door was not properly secured.

He immediately made a report to the Lethem Police Station.

Subsequently, the police contacted the suspects at Tabatinga where they were questioned and one of the suspects then admitted to stealing the bag containing the cash.

According to the police report, the teen took the ranks to a spot located in the said village and handed over the cash.

They were all arrested and placed into custody at the Lethem Police Station.
