An accident on the Hope West Enmore Access Road, East Coast Demerara on Monday claimed the life of 38-year-old Rajin Persaud, a goldsmith of Foulis, Enmore.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Persaud, a pedal cyclist, was crushed to death by motor lorry GWW 8721, driven by 34-year-old Tillackram Dindial of Enmore at around 19:30hrs.
According to the police, the truck was parked on the northern parapet of the road in the vicinity of the driver’s premises offloading sand. As the driver lowered the tray and started to reverse, his wife shouted out to him that he ran over one of their dogs.
Upon checking, however, the driver observed Persaud under the truck covered in blood.
He was then picked up by public-spirited citizens and escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigations are ongoing.
