Five identifiable males, according to the police, invaded a Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara house in the wee hours of Tuesday and terrorised a family of three before carting off with an undisclosed amount of cash, jewelry, and other valuables.

The incident occurred between 03:26hrs and 03:45hrs and involved a 59-year-old businessman who the police did not identify.

A report from Police Headquarters noted that the businessman and his wife were outside sitting and eating; at the same time, his daughter took the garbage out to the front of the yard when she heard what sounded like a gunshot.

As a result, she ran inside the yard where the five armed males, who were all covered with face masks, followed her. The one who was armed with the handgun approached the businessman and hit him across the head.  Another one then ordered the wife to bring all the money she had.

Police said the woman complied and brought out a small black haversack and gave it to the perps. The bandits then relieved the businessman and his wife of two cellphones and a quantity of gold jewelry and escaped on foot.

The victims raised an alarm and the neighbours contacted the police.
