Captain Stafanie Taylor stroked her sixth ODI ton as West Indies Women cruised to a five-wicket victory against Pakistan Women in the first ODI on Wednesday at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
After taking three wickets to help limit Pakistan Women to 205-9, Jamaican Taylor scored as unbeaten 105 as West Indies Women responded with 209-5 in 47.5 overs.
West Indies lost openers Hayley Matthews (16) and Kyshona Knight (8) cheaply to be 42-2, before Kycia Knight (19) fell 75-3.
Taylor, 30, glued the innings together after then forging identical partnerships of 46 with Deandra Dottin (9) and Cheadan Nation (23), before Britney Cooper made a breezy 17* off 21 to help close out the game.
Taylor’s knock spanned 116 balls and included 11 fours and two sixes. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal took 2-47 for Pakistan Women.
Earlier, the visitors got a solid start of 70 from openers Ayesha Zafar (46) and Muneeba Ali (36), but there was a steady procession of wickets thereafter. It took a top score of 55 from Nida Dar to keep Pakistan in the game after Taylor led West Indies bowling effort with 3-29 off 10 overs.
Fellow off-spinner Anisa Mohammed took 2-31 off 10 overs, while there was one wicket each for Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman.
Game two in the three-match series is on Friday at the same venue from 09:30h.
