Man, 36, among three new COVID deaths; 77 more people infected

Another three people died after they were infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 taking the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 489 with 13 of those deaths recorded during this month so far.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health reported that the latest fatalities are:

  1. A 75-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), who died on July 7
  2. A 36-year-old man from Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice) who died on July 8
  3. A 66-year-old woman, also from Region Five, who died on July 8 also

The ministry said that the patients were admitted COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at a medical institution. Samples were reportedly taken at the time of admission and those subsequently returned positive tests.

In addition to these three deaths, the ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard indicated that another 77 people became infected with the virus after 1,259 tests were conducted. This means that there have been 20, 834 infections recorded since March, 2020.

These cases were recorded in Region One (seven cases), Region Two (one case), Region Three (24 cases), Region Four (28 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (six cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (three cases) and Region 10 (four cases).

Meanwhile, there are 1,444 active cases currently. These include 11 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 87 people in institutional isolation, 1,336 are in home isolation and 10 in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, another 116 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
