A 10-year-old identified, as Anand Mangroo of Lot 380 Hope, Lowlands, East Coast Demerara, drowned on Sunday afternoon between 16:00hrs and 16:30hrs at the Hope Seawall.
According to police reports, Mangroo, along with his 13-year-old brother and eight-year-old cousin, was at Hope Seawall swimming when a wave lashed Mangroo towards the Hope Koker channel.
It was reported that the young boy went under water and did not resurface. His brother shouted for help, but no one went to his assistance.
Subsequently, police began a search and at 20:20hrs the body of the young boy was found and taken out of the water at Hope Foreshore.
The body is now awaiting an autopsy.
