A 25-year-old mason was on Wednesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan for the offence of armed robbery.

Terrence Basteani of Albouystown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on February 20, 2021, at James Street, Albouystown, while being in the company of another, he robbed Delon Walcott of a cell phone and gold chain valued at $310,000.

His attorney, Adrian Thompson made an application for reasonable bail but Police Prosecutor, Sherwin Matthews objected based on the seriousness of the charge.

According to the prosecutor, on the day in question, Walcott and his girlfriend were standing at the corner of James Street when they were confronted by Basteani and another man.

It is alleged that the bandits held the couple at gunpoint and took away Walcott’s cell phone and gold chain and escaped. Basteani was later arrested and was positively pointed out by the victim.

The Chief Magistrate remanded Basteani to prison until July 28, 2021.
