A 20-year-old man, who was nabbed at the Stabroek Market with a loaded firearm in his bag, was on Monday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Leron Daly on a charge of gun and ammunition possession.

Kyle Small of Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the two charges, which alleged that on July 16 at Stabroek Market, he had a .40 automatic pistol along with five matching rounds in his possession without being the holder of a firearm license enforced at the time.

According to the facts presented by prosecutor Annalisa Brummell, on the day in question, police on patrol at the market saw Small acting in a suspicious manner.

The ranks confronted Small and conducted a search on a side bag he had in his possession. The loaded firearm was found inside the bag. He was arrested and later charged for the offence.

Based on the seriousness of the charge, Magistrate Daly remanded Small to prison until August 23.
