A 48-year-old man is a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound to his left leg following an armed robbery at his Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara house on Monday afternoon.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that two bandits – armed with a gun and knife – invaded the house by jumping the fence at around 14:30hrs.

At the time, the man’s 44-year-old wife was on the verandah with her mother when she saw the suspects jumping the fence.

They held her at gunpoint and relieved her of $200,000 in cash, a pair of gold-studded earrings, a gold wedding band, a diamond and silver ring and a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at $55,000.

The suspect with the knife remained with her, while the other went into the house where he saw her husband in the bedroom and began to demand money.

During that time, the suspect discharged a round in the victim’s direction, hitting him on his left leg.  That suspects then took the cash and escaped in a waiting vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
