Teen chopped after caught stealing ducks in Berbice

An 18-year old man is currently nursing chop wounds at the New Amsterdam Hospital following an incident at #67 Village Corentyne, Berbice.

Police said the teen, Chetram Gopaul called ‘Pops’, was reportedly attacked in the wee hours of Wednesday by a 52-year-old man who has since turned himself over to the police.

A statement noted that the 52-year-old man went to the Springlands Police Station and reported that Gopaul was caught in his duck pen with five of his ducklings in a salt bag.

The man told the police that he armed himself with a cutlass after he noticed the teenager had a knife in his hand.

The suspect further claimed that ‘Pops’ charged towards him with the knife and so he chopped him several times.

Gopaul was escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
