A Venezuelan national is nursing first and second-degree burns about his body after an apartment building located in the Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was destroyed by fire.
A police report noted that the incident occurred at around 14:45hrs on Thursday at the apartment building located at BK Quarries Inc, Mazaruni River.
Police said that the 34-year-old, attached to the Quarry, was sleeping in his section of the apartment when he was awakened by the fire which had engulfed his apartment.
The worker immediately escaped and raised an alarm; other workers responded with an onsite water tender and were able to extinguish the fire.
However, in the aftermath, it was said that 10 apartments were left severely damaged.
The injured worker was taken to the Bartica Hospital where he was admitted with first and second-degree burns about his body. He was reportedly the sole person in the building at the time of the fire. Investigations are ongoing.
