Five from Reg. 4 die from COVID; 240 new cases

The Ministry of Health is reporting 240 new COVID-19 cases along with five additional COVID-19 deaths.

The new cases take the total number of confirmed cases to 22, 090, while the death toll is now 523.

The five latest fatalities were all admitted at medical institutions with COVID-19 symptoms but died while receiving care. A statement by the ministry noted that samples taken from the patients returned positive.

The latest fatalities are all from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica):

1. A 73-year-old woman who died on June 29
2. A 73-year-old woman who died on July 02
3. A 45-year-old man who died on July 21
4. A 60-year-old man who died on July 22
5. And an 86-year-old man who died on July 23

The ministry is also now reporting an additional death for the month of June, taking the death for that month to 78, while the death toll for July is now 45.

Meanwhile, Region Nine accounted for majority of the new infections with 173.

The other cases were recorded in: Region Two (two cases), Region Three (18 cases), Region Four (29 cases), Region Five (two cases), Region Six (12 new cases) and Region Ten (four cases). The new cases were recorded from a total of 2, 263 tests.

There are now 11 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 75 people are in institutional isolation; 978 are in home isolation and two persons remain in institutional quarantine.

To date, 20,503 people who were previously infected with COVID-19, have now recovered.
