The body of a 1-year-old boy was on Tuesday pulled from a fishing pond by his mother at Onderneeming Sand Pit along the Essequibo Coast.

Police said the woman, 32-year-old Elizabeth Henry was washing clothes in the yard but left the young child with a sibling in the house playing.

At about 09:30 hours she decided to go check on them but realised that the now deceased child was missing.

She began to search outside where she found him floating in the fish pond which is situated about 300 ft. from her house.

He was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The body was examined for marks of violence by the police but none was found. The body was then transported to the Charity Public Hospital mortuary and is awaiting a post mortem examination.
