Two more COVID-19 deaths; 57 new infections

A 65-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) and a 67-year-old woman from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) are Guyana’s latest COVID-19 deaths.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Health reported that these individuals passed away while receiving care at a medical facility. This means that there have been 535 COVID-19 deaths since March last year; 56 of these deaths were recorded in July.

Meanwhile, the Ministry also reported that another 57 people were infected with SARS- CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease, COVID-19.

These new cases were detected after 1,326 tested were conducted. In total, 22,272 infections were recorded locally since March 11, 2020. Importantly, another 124 people who were infected with the virus have recovered within the last 24 hours.

The new cases were drawn from: Region Three (two cases), Region Two (three cases), Region Three (10 cases), Region Four (27 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (two cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (one case) and Region 10 (four cases).

There are also 867 active cases. These include 15 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 62 people in institutional isolation, 786 in home isolation and four in institutional quarantine.
