The Amazonia Mall, a state-of-the-art facility boasting modern architecture, restaurants, cinemas, and clothing stores,  officially opened its doors on Friday at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

The mall adds to the entertainment and shopping experience for locals and visitors. Among the 25 stores at the mall are Urban Lifestyle, Glamour, Enetworks and Bad Monkey.

The food court includes 8 outlets inclusive of newcomer The Flame along with Coffee Bean, Qaulitea, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King and Pizza Hut.

Caribbean Cinemas, Health Care International, Reaz Computer, Optique Vision Care and Health Care International are also located at the mall.

Proprietor of the mall, former Guyana and West Indies cricketer Ramnaresh Sarwan, said the idea for the mall started 10 years ago and to see it now open is overwhelming.

“Like every other project, we had our challenges that brought sleepless nights and a lot of ‘construction language’…but in the end we were able to produce a modern facility,” Sarwan said.

Sarwan said persons can expect high standards of service from the mall.

This is the second phase the project. Phase one included Massy Store, New Thriving Restaurant and Fitness53 Gym housed in one building.

The mall was also able to create over 300 jobs and the name Amazonia was specifically chosen to resonate with Guyana’s pristine rainforest.

President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, delivered the feature address at the opening ceremony

“I am very pleased [Sarwan], that you have achieved another project and I wish you well, I wish all the store owners here well. Collectively you have a responsibility to keep the environment the same way we are seeing it here,” the President said.

The President noted that this investment is one of many projects that will add to the development of the East Bank Corridor.
