A 63-year-old man identified as Joseph Curt was Sunday morning found dead in a trench at Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara.
The body was noticed floating in the trench and a public-spirited citizen assisted in getting the body out. Swellings were seen around the left eye and the head, Police stated.
Police said its enquiries revealed that Curt was an alcoholic and usually performed handyman services for people in the Mocha community.
The body was identified by his sister, Marva Light, before being taken to Memorial Gardens crematorium where a post mortem is expected to be conducted.
