Fisherman waiting on transportation beaten with steel bar by bandits

A 42-year-old fisherman is now nursing injuries about his body after he was beaten with a steel bar by bandits while awaiting transportation at the Unity Junction, East Coast Demerara.

Police said that the victim was at the junction at around 05:00hrs on Saturday awaiting transportation for work when he was approached by an unknown red motorcar with three occupants.

According to police, while the driver inquired where the victim was going, one of the occupants exited the vehicle with a steel bar in his hand.

He then snatched the victim’s Samsung S10 cellphone away and dealt him several lashes about his body and his head and fled the scene.

The phone was valued at $200,000.

The victim was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he is presently receiving treatment.

One suspect known as ‘Thick Slice’ was reportedly contacted and arrested; police are still searching for the other suspects.

Investigations are ongoing.
