Two more COVID deaths; 24 new cases

Two females – a 54-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and a 55-year-old from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are the country’s latest COVID-19 related deaths. The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that both patients died while receiving medical care at a facility.

This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 549 and also means that for the month of August, three persons have died.

Meanwhile, 24 new infections were recorded from 839 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March 2020, to 22, 643.

The new infections were recorded in: Region One (one case), Region Two (two cases), Region Three (two cases), Region Four (17 cases) and Region Six (two cases).

There are 12 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 87 patients are in institutional isolation, 648 are isolated at home and two persons are in institutional quarantine.

To date, 22, 327 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.
