Guyana passes 550 COVID-19 deaths; 62 new cases

Two men, aged 48 and 62, who lived in Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) are the country’s latest COVID-19 related deaths.

With these two deaths, the country’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 551. It also means that for the month of August so far, five persons have died.

The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that both patients died while receiving medical care at a facility.

Meanwhile, 62 new infections were recorded from 1,374 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March 2020, to 22, 705.

The new infections were recorded in: Region One (one case), Region Three (seven cases), Region Four (31 cases), Region Six (five cases), Region Nine (14 cases) and Region 10 (four cases).

There are 11 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 91 patients are in institutional isolation, 600 are isolated at home and two persons are in institutional quarantine.

To date, 21,452 persons have recovered from the dreaded virus.
