A 19-year-old man was arrested by police on Tuesday following reports that he used a cigarette lighter to burn the 2-year-old daughter of his girlfriend on various parts of her body.
According to a police report, the man went to the home of Nickeita Murray at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice on August 1, 2021 where he assaulted and burnt her 2-year-old niece.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was visiting his girlfriend who is the mother of the injured child.
While there the man became annoyed because the child was urinating and defecating more often than he deemed necessary.
As such he took a cigarette lighter and burnt her on her back and vagina causing her to receive injuries.
The child was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by police after the report was filed. She was examined by a doctor on duty and was later sent away.
The suspect was arrested and placed into custody.
